I operated on an elderly patient with a broken humerus in the elbow joint. In this case, I opted for a “half” elbow replacement because it allows the patient to preserve the biomechanics of the joint (as opposed to a so-called total joint replacement). This type of implant is used even less frequently than a total joint replacement.
