Replacing a loosened radial head prosthesis - special implant solution restores function

A patient suffered a complex elbow injury over a year ago. At the time, she had a radial head prosthesis (replacement of the radial head) implanted. However, this loosened soon after the procedure, causing pain and limited mobility.

Replacement with special implant from Germany

As part of the revision surgery, the loosened prosthesis was removed and replaced with a new, longer model. This special implant was cemented in place and fixed in the correct position. In addition, the joint was surgically mobilized, which was the most complex part of the procedure.

Result: elbow is mobile again

Thanks to the customized implant and the precise operation, the mobility of the elbow was significantly improved. The patient can now perform everyday movements again without pain.

Medical terms used:

Radial head prosthesis – Artificial replacement of the upper end of the radius, important for the rotational movement of the forearm.

Cemented endoprosthesis – Implant that is permanently anchored in the bone with bone cement.

Joint mobilization – Surgical technique to release movement restrictions in a joint.
